Search Engine Optimization Is a unique task which one just needs to know the system. Using the correct techniques you should be ranking in no time and receiving orders or calls to your site. Of course there is a lot involved but this quick 5 step process will help you simply your success in internet marketing and search engine optimization.

Search Engine Optimization requires understanding your Competition

Find who your competitors are by searching for a keyword will want to rank for. This keyword should actually be a key phrase so it is easier for you to rank sooner. Having ?search engine optimization? as a keyword is just to difficult to rank for at first.

Work your way up in Internet marketing by using the low hanging fruit key phrases.

An Internet marketing firm would find your competition by looking at the top 10 listings in the search engines. See what their title tags are showing and descriptions tags. Also, see if they are selling anything. Sometimes the tops listings are government sites and those would not be your competition.

Look at the last listing and do a link:www.therewebaddress.com in google or yahoo to discover how many links are pointing to that site. The more high ranking links the more difficult it will be to rank above that site.

Your next step in Internet marketing is On Site Optimization.

Use your key phrases in the title tags and descriptions tags according to your content. Title tags work best if you use 3 key phrases per title tag. Then in your content you would have these key phrases laid out accordingly.

Also, be sure to use H1 and H2 tags with those key phrases. Internet Marketing Firms use header tags to tell google what the paragraph below is about and the site.

Search Engine Optimization and Link Building

Some times the most feared part of any Internet marketing company or SEO expert. The link building is actually quite simple.

You have many options in Internet marketing to build links. Lets start with Directory Submission secrets?.

Directory submission services are usually the best as they will do this tedious task for you. Submitting to thousands of sites for a nominal service fee. Or you can do it your self but while doing all the onsite optimization you may need assistance. So directory submission services are very helpful.

Another Link Building Technique is paying for links to other site.

Although, not the best method in my opinion because it will be a cost up front. It can be effective to pay a high trafficked web site to put a link on their page.

The most beneficial Internet Marketing Technique is Articles.

Create some great informative articles and send them to article sites. Within these articles are your key phrases and links back to your site.

This is a huge way of link building. It takes time? but very beneficial. Most importantly do not write dumb articles. Give the reader good content, as it will help your business in the long run making you a specialist.

Although Alexa’s search results are driven by Google, this is a definite must in your search engine marketing plan.

The reason is that Alexa will provide statistics about your website that no other search engine or web directory will provide.

    These statistics include:

*Your site ranking on the internet
*What sites are linking to yours
    *Detailed traffic statistics
    *Site thumbnails
    *Site Speed

These are just a few examples.

You can also use Alexa to search for your keywords. This will tell you who your competition is for the keywords you have selected. You can more carefully study your competition, find out who is linking to your competition, and use what you learn to raise your rankings in the search engines, as well as find better keywords for your website.

Alexa also has its own crawler, and eventhough you may show up in the search results powered by Google, you still want to have Alexa crawl your site.

Alexa, like Google, may discover your site on its own. However, it’s been my experience that Alexa only updates my site when I visit Alexa and make updates. This includes the thumbnails.

The first step that you should take before submitting to Alexa is to type in the domain name of your site to see if you are listed.

If you are listed, study the thumbnail for your site and see if needs to be updated. You should also check your site description, as well as contact information, and if it needs to be updated, update it.

Alexa will require that you verify your website in one of two ways. The first is to enter your email address, and Alexa will send you a confirmation email. The other way is that you can verified is to create an info.txt file and upload it to the root directory of your website. You can then click the verification link and Alexa will verify your site.

If your site isn’t listed for some reason, you will need to submit. Alexa gives detailed instructions, as well as information on creating a robots.txt file.

You can get more information, as well as submit your site to be crawled, at this link: http://pages.alexa.com/help/webmasters/index.html.

If you want to find out who your competition is, and get a competitive edge, then Alexa is an indispensible tool to help you. Use the detailed information you’ll find on this site, and you can easily raise your rankings in the search engines and get more traffic.

There is nothing more frustrating for a web designer or a website owner than spending an excessive amount of time ?tweaking? his website to optimize its page ranking ? and then realizing that search engines are bypassing it, for reasons unknown. The problem is that many people are operating off flawed misconceptions about search engine optimization (SEO) techniques ? rather than ?optimizing? their web pages, they may actually be harming it.

If you believe that you are in this situation, take a deep breath and calmly review your techniques and approaches ? and consider whether you have fallen into any of the following SEO fallacies and myths.

    — ?Invisible? Text and Meta-Tags —

As a standard practice, web masters include their site?s key words or phrases in their meta tags, ? and stop there, believing that this is all that needs to be done. It isn?t.

If you wish to increase your pages? relevance to search engine queries, the keywords must be incorporated into your site?s contents as well. Admittedly, search engines can see these hidden words and codes ? and do factor these in when ranking your page. Bear in mind, however, that search engines consider keywords within page contents to be more important than meta tags.

As a compromise, many web administrators and designers use ?invisible? keywords ? using text colors similar to the page background, which make them undetectable to human eyes but readable by search engines ? thus increasing keyword relevance.

What administrators and designers don?t realize is that these keywords, if visible, could be used as anchor texts, or as links to other pages on the site which would increase overall site relevance. Worse, invisible text is considered a borderline SEO technique ? some search engines may view this as ?bad hat? SEO and actually ban your site from their search results!

    — Offsite Page Design Techniques —

Many web administrators are overly-focused on web design to the exclusion of other SEO techniques that would have boosted search engine relevance. It is true that websites should have keywords integrated into their page contents so as to increase the page?s relevance to a search engine looking for that specific keyword. However, webmasters should not limit themselves to page contents. Using relevant keywords in page titles and headers help improve search relevance, and increase the page?s rankings.

Having highly relevant and informative content complete with keyword-intensive titles, headers and pages is not the end of it all. Search engines are now giving more weight to link popularity and relevance. In other words, it is not enough for a webmaster or designer to provide appropriate content and high keyword counts ? he should start working towards increasing his site?s inbound links, especially from well-known or popular websites that have relevant content.

    — SEO Return on Investment —

The biggest problem of many web administrators is impatience, especially when it comes to their estimates on when their hard work will pay off in terms of improved page ranking. In a way, this is the major misconception accompanying search engine optimization strategies: that implementing these techniques will result in a quick and easy return.

The truth is that SEO measures do not give immediate results; oftentimes, they?ll take weeks or even months before an improvement in page rankings can be appreciated. The bottom line, however, is that page rankings will improve once appropriate and properly implemented SEO measures are implemented.

The lesson to be learned here, perhaps, is that search engine optimization is not a single undertaking that, put into practice, is finished. Effective SEO implies a constant, continuing process aimed at striving for improvements in design, performance, and technique even as you wait for previous efforts to bear fruit.

One of the most powerful aspects of Search Engine Optimization is link building. Proper link building for the purpose of rankings uses Targeting Links. Targeting Links are one of the most effective approaches, as the links pass PageRank, and are already proven to rank your competitors. The ?Old School? terminology for this approach is called ?Stealing your competitors rankings?.

Top SEO Companies use this method when developing top-tier marketing strategies for their clients and even their own websites. It is also the most time consuming approach to link building, but it is one of the most powerful methods of producing results.

    Define your keyword targets:
Each and every link you build needs to have a keyword target when using this approach. Target a single keyword first. See who?s ranking in the top ten on your favorite Search Engine (SE) for this keyword or keyword phrase. All of those sites contain your link targets. The sites that link to them, their backlinks, are more powerful than any link that is built for the sole purpose of link popularity. These are targeted links and have much more power to rank websites. Now the keyword that these sites rank for is the Anchor Text that you want to use on your link on these targeted websites.

Now that we have your keyword target, we need to consider whether the link is really a quality link, or a spam site. Determining this is harder for the layman than the experienced marketer as some sites that show in the backlinks are obvious spammers or websites that are trying to make a buck from Pay Per Click advertising. As a general rule these have low or no PageRank (PageRank 0/10), and always have a ton of ads first. Ignore these links, as they will be temporary or detrimental to this process. Finding the quality websites in your competitors backlinks is very important. You need to weed out the garbage.

Choose the websites that have some PageRank and appear to be quality sites, if you find some sites in common when checking backlinks on multiple competitors, then those are the important links, and you should do whatever you have to do to get a link from it. Consider a reciprocal if all else fails.

Now the hard part, how do you get your link on their page next to your competitor? How can you get the link to you without returning it? Since everyone is so link popularity aware, you need to present a quality proposal to the webmaster to gain a link. You need to be a quality addition for the webmaster to want to add the link. Nowadays, it?s rare that any site will give a link without returning one. In 1999 before the Link Popularity Search Engines, this was not the case, webmasters linked to whoever they wanted to and paid no attention to reciprocal link exchanges. So how can we get a link without returning one?

Here?s a smart approach. For any link that you are targeting, you really need to try and attempt to offer the webmaster a real reason on why he should add the link. Proving that your website is a valuable resource and one-of-a-kind, is a possible way to still get a free link, and a free targeted link is a powerful link. One-way links are important for any site as it is the model of the Authority Domains. These sites have hundreds to thousands of one-way links, and very few if any reciprocal links. So you should try through whatever methods of one-way link building that you want to use, to get these targeted links without reciprocating. But a reciprocal link is better than no link.

Combine this method with blind link building (random reciprocals links), press releases and even article writing (like this one) and your site will achieve better rankings, better traffic and if your site is truly effective?it will prosper.

If you target the wrong key phrases you might as well give up and go home now……

Keywords are the first thing you need to consider when approaching the subject of internet marketing and search engine optimisation and if not properly selected will loose you copious amounts of targeted traffic.

I would hazard a guess that probably 99% of websites are not targeting the keywords that would be most profitable for them and so are losing thousands if not hundreds of thousands of pounds by ignoring this important part of Search Engine Optimisation.

Most businesses when asked ?So how did you decide on the keywords you wanted to target? will say one of the following two:

1.?They are the keywords my competitors use so I used them?.
2.?Well it obvious they are the keywords I should use isn?t it?.

Do these comments sound familiar to you? To 99% of you they will and if that?s the case then you need to read on.

Keyword selection is an easy process but many people overlook it and target keywords that they would expect to be profitable and find out to their peril that they were not.

First of let me clear one thing up that not a lot of people seem to realise and that is that a keyword is individual, So for arguments sake the key phrase ?great keyword? is different to the key phrase ?keywords that are great?. This sounds strange I know but if you are optimising for a specific key phrase you need to keep your eye on that key phrase (this is important to remember).

There are now many tools that make the process of keyword selection very easy. One example of this is Yahoo marketing?s (formally known as overture) keyword tool that?s free to use and will quickly tell you all the different variations of the keywords you are targeting and exactly how popular they are.

I always recommend the following when deciding the best keywords for a campaign:

    1. Put yourself in your customer?s shoes (what would you search for if you were looking for your product or service?).
    2. Research your competition and see what they are doing but don?t just do what they are doing because they are.
    3. Write down all of your suggestions and ideas for keywords (you will need them next)
    4. Go to the Yahoo marketing web page and use their free keyword checking tool and in turn type in your key phrase suggestions.
    5. Take note of all of the different combinations that are suggested to you and the amount of searches done on them this is where you normally find out that the key phrase you thought was profitable are not the most profitable on the list.
    6. This is where you now decide to reselect your keywords unless you are in the 1%.

Only once you know what specific key phrases you are targeting can you start the job of search engine optimisation safe in the knowledge that you are not chasing a white elephant.

Today, many webmasters even experts believe that ranking high in a search engine takes a lot of time and a lot of effort. But is this true, it may be true to you but not to me!

“Getting a high search engine ranking is not an overnight game!” this is what I also used to believe that a lot of experts still do but very soon… EVERYTHING CHANGED.

This article is all about how I ranked no.1 in MSN in just 7days and how can you do this!

It was 8th,may 2006 when I first submitted my URL to some of the top search engines including Yahoo, Google and… MSN. On 10th, may 2006 I published my whole site and on 15th may I was shocked to see my website on 12the rank for economical search engine optimization and no.1 for economical search engine optimization firm in MSN search.

I was shocked because I had never thought that MSN will index my whole site in just 5 days and also will reward me top rankings in its listings. I thought that it would take at least 2 weeks to just get into its database but I think it was my optimized site which supported MSN to give it high rankings.

So, what I concluded from it was that my strategy for my website was absolutely correct. So, if it can work for me then why can’t it work for you.

    So What Was My Strategy?

A Good keyword research - I performed a very good keyword research using Google and Overture’s Inventory tool. If you want to rank high you need to perform a good keyword research because if you are targeting a very competitive keyword and your site is new then you have no chance. Keyword research is what that will bring you targeted traffic so try to perform a good keyword research it’s useless to compete for highly competitive keywords just to get high amount of traffic. Don’t bother about the traffic they generate just target less competitive keywords and phrases where you have some chance to win the race. Remember slow and steady wins the race.

Keyword Density and Utilization - MSN gives a great importance to the keyword density of your page and also to the keyword density in the first 1000 characters used in your web page. Its better to use a density of 4-5%. This why I used my most important keywords at the top of each page which really supports my rankings in MSN. But always remember that stuffing will not give you rankings just be descriptive and focused to your content and you will rank according to what you deserve.

Keywords in Title: Title once again, now everyone of you would be knowing that Title is one of the most important ones so, it is strongly recommended that you use your important keywords in the Title tag first and keep the density in the title between 30-40% and always remember to be descriptive rather than filling it with keywords because natural is what that is favored by the search engines. Stuffing keywords in the Title like : SEO, SEO Firm, SEO Services, SEO India will not work except of stuffing you should prefer something like: SEO Firm India Providing Quality SEO Services

Keywords Used In Incoming Links To Your Site - Keywords used in incoming links to your site is the most important factor for your ranking. Use the same keywords in your links text that you use in Title, this is what which have boosted my rankings up the order if I remove the keywords from the incoming links then my rankings may drop again. So, the best thing to do when building links is that use your important keywords in the tag rather than using your company name. Example:

An Ordinary Link: Thefreesite - an economical search engine optimization firm.

A Good Link: Search Engine Optimization Firm - an economical search engine optimization firm in India.

To see a good example of fully optimized page visit my website http://www.thefreesite.50webs.com
and take a close look at our source code just copy it and open it in an editor
like Frontpage or Dreamweaver and you will see the difference. Take a close look at all the things we have used on our pages and try to use it on your website for your keywords.

But also remember don’t try to be oversmart or don’t do anything foolish with MSN, if you have some questions or have some doubt of what to do then just mail me at vistadivine.com@gmail.com and I will help you.

As the number of websites grow everyday, it is becoming increasingly difficult for a new site to attain good rankings on search engines. Since major search engines factor link popularity heavily into their ranking algorithms, building relevant links to your site is perhaps the single most important component of search engine optimization.

For a new site with no or few inbound links, buying text links on more established related sites could provide a boost to your link popularity. But this strategy could prove prohibitively expensive, especially in a highly competitive market where you’d have to buy lots of links to catch up with the competition.

Web directory listing represents a viable alternative to link buying. Apart from driving traffic to your site through direct referrals, web directories provide one-way inbound links to your site, boosting your link popularity and ultimately improving your search rankings.

There are thousands of web directories on the net, with dozens sprouting up every day. Some are general directories; others cater to specific niches. Some are free; others charge inclusion fees. Some are free only if you provide a reciprocal link in return. Many feature both free and paid listings.

The main advantage of a paid listing is the luxury of having your site listed quickly above everyone else’s. Free submissions may take several weeks or months for review. If you work on a limited budget, you may want to submit to a handful of paid directories and a few hundred free ones.

Some directories charge inclusion fees that are too high for the listing to be cost effective. When considering a paid listing, look at not only the Google PageRank of the homepage of directory, but also that of the subpage where your link will actually reside. While it may seem like a good deal to have your site listed on a PR5 directory for $15, the offer becomes far less attractive when you find out that the internal page where your link is placed is only PR2.

If you’ve ever submitted to web directories before, I don’t have to convince you that the process is extremely tedious and time-consuming, especially when you submit to a large number of them. Unlike search engines that send out robots to index web pages, web directories rely on more detailed submission forms to gather information about your site. Since each submitted site must be reviewed by a real person, most directories require that submissions are also performed by a real person, as opposed to an automatic script. Many directories use a visual code verification process to prevent automated submissions. Apart from complying with the directory’s guidelines, manual submission is the only way to ensure that your site is submitted to the proper category.

Because of the time involved in manually submitting your site and the sheer number of directories on the web, it’s important that you know which directories to submit to. Obviously, you’d want to submit to only the high-PR directories and avoid the low-PR ones, right? Not really. Just because a directory has a low PR does not mean that it’s not worth submitting to. The directory may be brand new and has not been around long enough to be ranked by Google. In contrast to the more established directories that continually experience a back-log of submissions, newer directories tend to review and list sites more quickly. As the directory becomes more popular, so will your link. So, don’t judge a directory solely by its PageRank; rather, base your decision on the overall quality of the directory.

Another important thing to look at is whether or not the directory you submit to is search engine friendly. Search engines like static web pages whose contents stay the same regardless of who visits the page, or when they visit, not dynamic pages that are created on-the-fly. Browse to a couple of categories and look at URL in the navigation bar. If the URL looks like, http://www.godirectory.org/links.php?ax=list&sub=42&cat_id=245, it’s probably not search engine friendly. An example of a static, search engine friendly URL is http://www.godirectory.org/dir/713/index.html (notice the “.html” suffix).

Another question to ask is: How easy it is to submit to the directory? How many hoops do you have to jump through to get to the submission form? When you finally get to the form, how many fields does the form have? A directory should ask for pertinent information like your name, email, URL, link title, link description, and keywords, but it should not look like a job application. With the exception of a handful of major directories like DMOZ and Yahoo, you should not have to spend more than 3 to 4 minutes to submit your site.

Another consideration is whether or not the directory has a category specific enough for your site. For optimal SEO benefits from your listing, your link should grouped under a specific category containing sites whose contents are related to yours. Such a grouping makes your listing more relevant in the eyes of the search engines, as well as providing an easier way for visitors to the directory to find your site.

Simply having your site listed on a directory is not enough. Your choice of the link title can determine how much impact your listing will have on your search engine rankings. Ideally, your link title (or “anchor text”) should contain the keywords that you want others to search for to get to your site. Since most web directories require a unique link title, however, it may not be possible to select a common phrase like “Free Web Directory” as your link title. This title is likely already taken by another web directory. Simply prefixing the phrase with your domain name, e.g. “GoDirectory.org Free Web Directory”, would make the title unique.

Oftentimes, a directory would have several related categories that are suitable for your site. How do you decide which one to submit to? Ideally, you’d want to submit to the category that has the highest PageRank. However, this may not turn out to be the wisest choice as your link may be buried among a zillion other listings. Going with a lower-PR category with fewer competing links may prove to be more beneficial. When choosing from multiple related categories, choose one with a good balance of relevancy, Pagerank, number of competing listings.

In sum, submitting to web directories is a highly effective link building strategy that should be an integral part of any search engine optimization campaign. Manually submitting to a large number of directories is both laborious and time-consuming. Just keep the above points in mind to make the most of your time.

There seems to be this hysteria around Google and its Toolbar updates. Maybe it relates to webmasters and web designers thinking that once Google make this fabled toolbar update that their website will magically jump up in the SERP’s. Well I cannot say this clearly enough but if this is what you believe then you will be sadly disappointed. Google just don’t work this way.

I see many, many articles, posts and blog comments by interested onlookers and self-declared SEO experts about the upcoming, and according to some people, well overdue, toolbar pagerank update. I have one quote I would like to share with you, from Matt Cutts who is one of the head Google Search Engineers, “Toolbar Pagerank updates are a non-event at Google”. The main reason Matt says this is because pagerank is updated constantly and the toolbar pagerank is only a snapshot of the real pagerank. So this being the case once the snapshot of the real page rank is taken and assigned to the toolbar database it will have no affect on how Google actually view or rank the website in the SERP’s. Fretting and stressing about where the toolbar pagerank update has gone is pointless because your web page already has a pagerank assigned to it, you just can’t see a little green bar. It’s just so teasing by Google isn’t it!!

So, what should we do now that we have decided that checking your toolbar pagerank and those terribly inaccurate pagerank predictors is a waste of our time?

Well, find some good articles on SEO. Read them. Find more. Read them. Absorb as much information as you can about SEO and online marketing. Read about the website language your website is coded in. A common language nowadays is PHP. Research keywords and how to find good keyword phrases. Take a proactive approach and make some modifications to your site that you now know are correct SEO techniques.

If you have already got web pages in the SERP’s then look for where you have 2 pages with 1 indented and maybe make some small modifications to the page that is the indented result and experiment with it a little. Keep a diary of your changes so that if you need to trace back to what changes you made you can. If they get a positive result then you can apply the exact same changes across other pages or if they are negative in the SERP’s then you can start again from where you were before.

Give at least a week or two in-between making changes so that you can know exactly what affect your change had in the SERP’s. Make only one change per page so that you can monitor that particular change vs. SERP’s rankings.

Directory development is a growing popular method for gaining quality content and traffic for a website. Resource directories consist of a number of links to other sites within a category of the directory-Just like the Yellow Pages organize businesses by category. Website owners who are considering using directories to promote their site should know why directories are important and what they do. And those who are considering their own directory should know about resource directory development.

Directories are very important for any website owner. When submitting to a directory, the URLs are typically human reviewed for quality assurance. By getting accepted it means your site meets the directories guidelines and is a quality site. Some directories are more difficult to get into like Yahoo! or DMOZ. Yahoo! charges $299 for a directory inclusion, while submissions to DMOZ are subject to an editors? approval.

Many websites seek out directories they can submit to. On a daily basis a website owner will seek out several directories and add their site. This increases their number of inbound links, and well as increasing their visibility on the internet.

    Tips for Submitting to Directories
*Include the most important keywords in the title.

*Submit your homepage. Directories will typically not accept extensions. It is good if your URL has your keywords in it.

*Write a good description free of grammatical errors. It will save time to write two descriptions, one long and one short, for different directories.

Some directories focus on a particular niche, while others have categories for just about everything. An example of a targeted directory would be one that only accepts sites about search engine marketing or search engine optimization. Choosing a niche directory that relates to the keywords of the site will help bring more visibility to that particular directory as well as the links.

If developing a directory for your own site there are some important things to keep in mind. It must be search engine friendly so it may be indexed properly. Choose categories carefully so they are aimed at your market or the markets to which you wish to appeal. Also don?t let categories go to deep. The more pages away from your homepage you get, the lower becomes the ranking of the directory pages. Make sure the directory is functional so other websites can easily add their URLs. An email notification is a good idea. An acceptance email will not only reassure the website owner but also help you to develop more relationships with other website owners.

    Tips for Directory Development
*Keep listing results small, to about 20 a page. More than that can be overwhelming and confusing to users seeking out information.

*Maintain and update your directory frequently. Search engines like to see a site updated regularly, and maintaining the directory will assure that all the links are still functional and that all the URLs still exist.

*Incorporate the look of your website into the directory. This will help users to associate the directory with your site.

Always keep in mind that you want to represent the best of your site in any listing. So whether you are submitting to the best directories or creating your own directory make sure you are providing the most accurate information and the best possible representation of your site.

Today what everyone assumes that attracting more and more visitors is the easiest way to increase the traffic. Somehow it is true, but a site will be truly popular if it makes the new visitors to come back again and again. It is much easier getting people to visit your site first time than it is getting them to come back. Now the question is what is that thing that gives an impact on someone so that he visit the site again and again?

There is no any formula; there are so many things you need to do that can change a first time visitor to a regular visitor. In this article I am giving you some good ways so that visitors just stick to your site and make the visits regularly.

    Navigation Structure

This is the easiest way of getting return visitors to your site. The users can easily get frustrated if they are finding hard to search something on your website. Always use three clicks formula in your site navigation structure so that the visitors get all the required information in just three clicks. The best way to do that is to create a site map. Put a site map on the home page and on the footer of every page. These are very helpful, for both visitors and spiders. If a site contains so many inner pages or internal links then search bars will be more encouraging to the website return visitors.

    Relevant & Fresh Content

Content is foremost and the most important factor of any website to encourage return visitors. Visitors visit the site only for the information not for the attractive designs and animated pictures. The content should be theme based i.e. it is should be relevant to the products or services you are providing. For example, you are selling a product say a manufacturing tool but your site is telling about Britney Spears. Then all your efforts will be bootless and the visitor at once clicks off and visits a competitor. Another way of attracting return visitors is by providing fresh and updated content. People always want time-to-time information that is frequently updated.

    Ezine Publishing

Writing and publishing articles will make you in touch with your visitors constantly and it often goes a long way towards establishing your site a regular stop for many visitors. If there are a lot of new articles to read each time, then you’ll probably find a new visitor coming back several times more to collect the new information.

Adding a “What’s new today” page of some sort to inform your regular visitors about recent developments, will constantly encourage your return visitors. But make sure that you have things in adequate amount to report on it.

    Create a Forum

This is the most powerful and practical tool in bringing huge success. There may be many sites contain good content but the main reason who kept the return visitors coming back again and again, is the discussion forms. You can create many specific forums for each category discussed on your site. If you have a discussion board then most of the people will come just to see what other people have posted on your site. What?s new going on? What kind of website problems are people dealing with? And the best part about the discussion forums is no requirement of any special software to visit the forums.

Just focus on creating discussion boards on your site and see the magic. They will really increase the rate of return visitors.

    Start Monthly Raffles

It?s a very interesting tool to encourage return visitors. You can fascinate visitors by giving something valuable for free every month by starting some offers and competitions. But make sure that the prize is worth winning and affordable for you also.

This will also prove to be good and will increase the hits on your site.

    Newsletters are also Helpful

Newsletters are basically simple announcements that let others know about the new arrivals, the changes you have made on your site. They will keep you in touch with the visitors. Always keep your newsletters interesting by giving some fascinating styles-from a simple, one color piece to multi color format. You can also put some add-on like graphic designs, pictures, photographs etc. But this will depend all on your budget. And if you will able to get your visitors to subscribe to your newsletters then you can e-mail your newsletters to them and the newsletters will work as a reminder of your site. This will help a lot in returning the visitors.

Just keep in mind that more attractive is the newsletter, more interest it will attract that will lead to the increase in numbers of return visitors.

Go for any way! Just keep in mind that your goal is to increase number of return visitors. But firstly focus on the actual content of your site then opt any of the other tips.

As of September, Smartads went through what so many have done before. I changed the entire site. I knew what it meant. It means that your search engine placements your probably so proud of are probably going to be lost in the process.

Sad but true. See, search engines are getting smarter, not only are they getting smarter but they do what you do. When you change a design, se’s change your listings!

Typically you change it for a couple of reasons.

    1) You don’t like the design anymore

    2) You’ve learned knew tips on how to optimize your site better for search engine placements.

    3) Your revising your services

Whatever it may be, you’re changing something. Now it won’t happen right away but eventually, if your site already has a good search engine ranking, then search engines will find out what you’ve done and follow a process.

But “se’s” aren’t human? That’s correct but they were built by humans. Most se programmers realize that eventually something changes and since they want their search engine to be the best, they try to recognize your changes right away but there’s only one problem.

What do they do with the listings you have right now? Well, let’s say for instance you are attempting to change everything for the better.

Now let’s also say that you HAD a page title called “good rank”.

Search engine’s previously knew and still think that your page is all about “good rank”. Moving along, your new page information is about “Getting a better rank”. Your old placements are now wrong in the eye’s of search engines. They now realize that something has changed. So what are they going to do?

Dump your old listings and start over! Ouch is right. So why would you ever want to change your site if that’s the case?

Well here’s some food for thought: Yes, you may loose your existing rankings but your roots are growing. Your new pages are growing bigger and better than before, it just takes a small transitional period to take effect.

For instance, within Google, Smartads had over 580 pages found when looking at all the links listed in Google. Since we changed the entire site, there was a 2 day period where none of our links were listed anymore. Normally, this would have scared me right away if I didn’t know that my site had changed.

Not 4 days later, not only where my pages back but the old rotten pages that weren’t being used anymore got dumped and the many new pages got listed. Around 680 pages now. That was a jump of around 100 pages that got added.

Here’s another example for you. Most of us know about link popularity within Google. You’ve put all your effort into promoting your main page. All of the links that you’ve had placed on other sites have a link title of: “Great Ranking Services”. Once google saw your link, it started looking to see whether your information on your site is relevant to “Great Ranking Services” and awarded you appropriately.

Moving along a little, you’ve not only changed your site but you’ve also changed your link title to better fit the new content. The new link you now add on other sites reads something like this: “Boost Your Search Engine Rankings”.

Before you changed your site, you got a GREAT rank for “Great Ranking Services” when people did a search online.

Here’s the catch. Now that your promoting a new site, a new page, new content within your page, the old content relavance goes straight down the drain. Search engines have recognized that everything has changed and are not paying any attention to your old links anymore. Yes, they still help your link popularity, but they don’t help your content relevance.

See, search engines are consistently trying to improve their content relevance. That’s what people want. If they search “gidgets & widgets”, they expect to get the best results for “gidgets & widgets”.

    In Conclusion:

If you plan on changing your site, be prepared to suffer for a small amount of time. Prepare yourself for the worst because the best is yet to arise and prevail.

I understand that we all want better search engine rankings and just be ready to do what ever it takes, even if it means loosing your old se placements for some newer, fresher ones.

    What is PageRank?

PageRank is one of the important factors that determine Search Engine Results Page (SERP). It is a numerical value assigned by Google that shows the importance of a web page. When one page links to another, it is actually casting a vote for the other page. It goes to say that a page with more relevant inbound links enjoys a higher page rank. For simplicity sake, PageRank is referred to PR in this article.

Applying the Mathematical Concept of PageRank

Google calculates the PR of a web page using this equation:

    PR(A)=(1-d) + d[PR(t1)/C(t1) +...+ PR(tn)/C(tn)]

‘t1…tn’ are pages linking to Page A
‘C’ is the number of outbound links of the linking page
‘d’ is a damping factor set at 0.85

This is the original equation Google published when it developed PR. Whether Google uses a variation of it, only God knows. This equation, though, is essential to an understanding of PR.

Don’t be scared by the above equation. For a fuller explanation of this equation with working examples read The Google Page Rank Algorithm and How it Works by Ian Rogers.

The purpose of this present article is to apply the Mathematical concept of PR to your web page ranking strategy. Yes, you can organize your linking strategy to achieve high PR for your important web pages.

    Inbound Linking Strategy

Many people assume that the Toolbar PR values of PR1 to PR10 are set on a logarithmic scale. Nobody outside Google knows for sure, but there is a very good reason for this assumption. That being the case, moving from a lower page rank to the next higher one gets increasingly difficult. So, moving from PR3 to PR4 is more difficult compared to moving from PR1 to PR2. For illustration refer to the table below…

Toolbar PageRank (log base 10)…Real PageRank

    0………………………………0 - 10

    1……………………………100 - 1,000

    2…………………………..1,000 - 10,000

    3………………………….10,000 - 100,000

    4……………………………..and so on…

*This illustration assumes a log base of 10.

In a nutshell, an inbound page link with a PR8 is worth more than one with PR4. The number of outbound links of the incoming page link becomes immaterial. Inbound links with high PRs that are relevant to your website will boost your web page ranking significantly.

The practice in the past was to buy inbound links with high PR to boost your web page PR. However, Google in recent times has clamped down this practice. A new web page with lots of high PR inbound links will be viewed with suspicion. Buying incoming links has become a thing of the past. The rock solid ways to gather inbound links are through…

    a. Directories - Getting listed in quality directories like DMOZ or Yahoo can help boost your page rank.

    b. Building a great content site that others want to link with.

    Internal Linking Strategy

Based on the equation that Google uses to calculate PR, adding new pages has the effect of improving the overall PR of a website. If your organize your internal links carefully, you can channel the PR of your new pages to the important pages of your website.

The strategy is to grow your website steadily by adding new pages, and link them to your important pages. Avoid pages that are identical eg. affiliate programs web pages. You will be accused of spamming by Google, and run the risk of having your web pages and possibly your entire website penalized. Add new pages that are rich in content, and relevant to your website. Content is king.

However, new pages have to be indexed by Google before they can channel their PR to other pages. Google only indexes pages that have one or more pages on the web linked to them. Organize your internal linking carefully.

    Outbound Linking Strategy

You will lose page rank with outbound links. So it is good practice to ask for reciprocal links, and to have outbound links from a page with the lowest PR. Have the anchor text of the incoming links centered on your keywords or similar keywords. You also need to vary the text of your inbound links to make them look natural to Google.

Choose your link exchange partners carefully. Avoid link farms. Period.

Google enjoys about 36 percent of web traffic on the World Wide Web. In absolute terms, this represents a significant figure. As long as PR is one of the important factors Google uses to determine Search Engine Result Pages, it is prudence to understand how PR works and strategize your linking accordingly. You don’t need to crack your head to fully understand PR. All you need is to simply apply the practical concepts delineated in this article to your linking strategy, and a good dose of patience. For Google places emphasis on the age of your links, your domain, and your web pages.

It’s a fool’s game to try to beat Google. Stick to rock solid principles when building your link structure, and you won’t have to worry when the next Google ‘dance’ comes along. Your web pages will still be standing after the dust has settled.

If your web site doesn’t have a Top 10 search engine ranking, you’re missing out on approximately 85% of the Internet users who are looking for the exact products or services you offer.

No matter how much money you’re spending on online advertising, it isn’t bringing you anywhere near the bang for the buck that natural search engine optimization services can according to one Phoenix Optimization Firm that specializes in providing natural search engine optimization services.

Unlike having to spend thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars on advertising and pay-per-click online marketing strategies, an online marketing agency that provides natural search engine optimization uses techniques that are approved, and even endorsed, by all of the major search engines.

According to our Arizona SEO company contact, a professional search engine optimization service provider takes a holistic approach to boosting a web site’s rankings. The steps that these companies take often include:

    * Performing key word research to identify the most popular search terms Internet users are entering to find the client’s products and services.

    * Optimizing the web site’s content pages by adding those key words, in a relevant and proper manner, to the copy that appears on each page.

    * Optimizing the web site’s HTML source code to accentuate those key words and to make sure that search engine spiders will have no problem fully indexing each page on the target web site.

    * Develop and implement a web site linking strategy that creates both inbound and outbound links to and from other web sites that are relevant to the client’s web site but are not competitors.

    * Providing the client with regular search engine placement reports that demonstrate how well their natural search engine optimization services are performing.

    * Being proactive when it comes to adjusting and fine-tuning each web page in order to ensure that it continues to maintain a top rank in the Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs).

If all of this sounds like a lot of work, it is. Most web masters who try to perform their own search engine optimization often fail. That’s because search engines are very picky and even one technical or tactical error can cause a site to plummet to the bottom of thousands of SERPs.

Professional search engine optimization companies like our Arizona SEO company friends are worth every penny they charge and they charge a whole lot less than you’ll earn if your site gets a good ranking thanks to proper natural search engine optimization services.

Search engine marketing is a set of marketing methods used to increase the visibility of a website in search engine results pages. Types of search engine marketing include; search engine optimization, pay per click, paid inclusion, and social media optimization. Search engine marketing differs from search engine optimization which is the art and science of making web pages attractive to internet search engines.

Non-profit organizations, universities, political parties, and the government can all benefit from search engine marketing. Businesses that sell products and/or services online can use search engine marketing to help improve their sales figures.

Some of the goals of search engine marketing are to develop a brand, generate media coverage, and enhancing a reputation, and to drive business to a physical location.

If you do not feel confident enough to try your own search engine marketing there are several companies that will be able to help you out for a price. If you decide to go with a search engine marketing company take your time and shop around, find a company that really suits your own businesses search engine marketing needs.

Stay away from companies that promise top rankings. Most companies that promise tope ranking are more interested in your money then they are in keeping your business. Quite often this type of company will charge you top doller, spend a few days making sure your website has a few basic requirements and that is the last you hear from them. This type of search engine marketing company is not really interested in repeat customers.

Tread carefully around companies that promise first page rankings on the major search engines like Google and Yahoo. Make sure these companies are talking about sponsored listings and not just natural listings. Companies that are only after natural listings traditionally charge a large monthly fee, using a small portion of the money on sponsored listings, and pocketing the remainder.

The false promise most commonly used by shady search engine marketing companies is the money back guarantee. Generally if you read the contract very carefully you will lean that these companies have a very strange idea of major search engine. Companies that have a money back guarantee typically don’t deal with the search engine movers and shakers like Google and Yahoo, instead they use small obscure search engines that are hardly ever used.

The Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization (SEMPO) was created in 2003 to offer the public educational resources about search engine marketing and to also promote search engine marketing. Currently SEMPO represents over 500 global search engine marketing companies. Sempo is happy to offer their resources to the public for free. SEMPO has offers search engine marketing training courses for any and all interested parties who would like to expand their knowledge of search engine marketing. SEMPO’s objectives are to teach search engine marketing strategies, techniques, and successful practices, to increase the availability and quality f its professionals, and to offer training courses that will help to establish a benchmark for search engine marketing. The cost of a SEMPO training course can range anywhere from five hundred dollars for a fundamentals of search marketing class, to over two thousand dollars for an advanced search advertising course.

On October 15, 1881 a baby by the name of Pelham Grenville Wodehouse (Plum to his friends) was born. In 1996, one hundred and fifteen years later, a brand new internet search engine would be named in honor of him, sort of.

P.G. Wodehouse was an extremely popular English writer who had a flair for comedy. Magazines like The Saturday Evening Post and The Strand serialized his novels while he spent time in Hollywood working as a screenwriter. P.G. Wodehouse had an incredibly prolific flair for writing. His writing career officially started in 1902 and ended in 1975. During that time he wrote ninety-six books, several collections of short stories, screenplays, and one musical.

When he was ninety-three years old, P.G. Wodehouse was made a Knight of the British Empire. Two of Mr. Wodehouse’s most famous characters(or perhaps infamous, depending on your point of view), are the bumbling Bertie Wooster and his long suffering valet, Jeeves.

P.G. Wodehouse will always be remembered for his comedic approach to writing.

In 1996, when Garret Gruener and David Warthen needed a name for the internet search engine they created they choose the name of Wodehouse’s fictional valet. The website was called Ask Jeeves. Jeeves remained the search engines mascot until the company retired him on February 27, 2006 a decision they announced on September 23, 2005. Jeeves retirement prompted the internet search engine to create a page titled “Where’s Jeeves”, that listed a variety of creative activities, including growing grapes and space exploration, the valet planned to do during his retirement. With Jeeves retired the search engine simply became Ask.com. During his reign at Ask Jeeves, the valet was always impeccably dressed in a beautifully tailored black suit, shiny shoes, and red tie. Although his posture changed almost yearly on the company logo he always had the same amicable smile.

When it was first created the idea behind Ask.com (back then it was still Ask Jeeves) questions would be posed in regular language and answers would be hunted down and provided. The creators of Ask Jeeves (now Ask.com) hoped that internet users would be drawn to the intuitive, user friendly style.

The growing popularity of keyword search engines like Yahoo! and Google prompted the powers-that-be at Ask Jeeves to overhaul their search engine to include keyword searches in addition to answering questions. Because Ask.com was not as quick to index new websites as some of its competitors its was not bogged down with computer generated linkspam., when users were unable to find usable web pages on the three most popular internet search engines, they turned to Ask.com who still had viable pages readily available.

Google believes in having a good time. They especially believe in having a good time on April Fools Day. How does a company who runs a search engine celebrate April Fool’s Day? They set up search engine hoaxes. April Fool’s Day hoaxes are fast becoming a Google tradition.

On April 1, 2000, Google announced its brand new form of search technology, a technology they cheerfully named MentalPlex. How did MentalPlex work? Brainwaves, all the searcher had to do was think about what they wanted to search for, this eliminated the need for typing, effectively eliminating the issue of spelling errors.

In 2002, Google openly discussed the genius behind its PageRank system. The secret? Pigeons or rather PigeonRank. Google was very proud of the way they had created a more efficient and cost effective way to rank pages. They were quick to explain that no pigeons were cruelly treated.

April 2004 offered Google employees the opportunity to work at the Google Lunar/Copernicus Center…on the moon. This April Fool’s Day prank made several tongue-in-cheek references to WindowXP’s visual style. They named the operating system Luna/X paying homage to Linux.

Google broke into the beverage industry in 2005 with their Google Gulp. People who drank Google Gulp would be able to get the most out of their Google search engines because they would be increasing their intelligence with every swallow. Google Gulp worked through a series of algorithms that used a real time analysis of the drinkers DNA and made precise adjustments to the brains neurotransmitters. Google Gulp came in a variety of flavors including Google Grape (glutamatic acid), Sero-Tonic Water (serotonin), Sugar-Free Radical (free radicals), and Beta Carroty (beta carotene).

2006 was a time for romance. Google created Google Romance. Google’s catch phrase, which appeared on the main search page was, “Dating is a search problem. Solve it with Google Romance.” Google users were invited to use Soul mate Search which would send them on a Contextual Date. Google invited people to “post multiple profiles with a bulk upload.”

Google has also taken advantage of April Fool’s Day to announce very real changes in the company. The reason they make real offers to consumers on April Fool’s Day is so that the consumers will think that it’s a hoax, joke about it, and then be pleasantly surprised when they find out that its real. Google announced the launch of Gmail, e-mail that was free to the consumer and provided one entire gigabyte of storage (that amount of storage for free was unheard of at the time), on March 31, 2004 (most consumers found out about it on the morning of the first). Exactly one year later they announce that they were increasing the one gigabyte of storage to two gigabytes.

Google’s map of the moon was added to Google maps on July 20, 2005. The map of the moon was semi-real, it did show NASA images of a very small section of the moon, but zooming in on the tiny section presented viewers with a photograph of Swiss cheese. There was also the location of all moon landings on the map. The map was Google’s way of celebrating the thirty-sixth anniversary of the first man on the moon but many consumers assumed that it was an extension on the Google Copernicus hoax. Google claims, through something called Google Moon, that in the 2069, Google Local will support all lunar businesses and addresses.

Chances are good that at some point in your life you ran a search on an online search engine and instead of one hit you received pages and pages of possible hits. Have you ever wondered if the order the websites appear on search was just a random grouping or if they had been placed in a specific order that just appeared disorderly to you? The answer is that there is a very elaborate system used to determine where a website appears during an internet search. The process is something called search engine optimization.

Search engine optimization is the science and art of making web pages attractive to search engines.

Next time you run an internet search look at the bottom of the page. Chances are good that there will be a list of page numbers (normally written in blue) for you to click if you can’t find exactly what you are looking for on the first page. If you actually look farther then the second page you will part of a minority. Studies and research have shown that the average internet user does not look farther then the second page of potential hits. As you can imagine it’s very important to websites to be listed on the first two pages.

Webmasters use a variety of techniques to improve their search engine ranking.

The first thing most webmasters (or website designers) do is check their meta tags. Meta tags are special HTML tags that provide information about a web page. Search engines can easily read Meta tags but they are written with special type of text that is invisible to internet users. Search engines rely on meta tags to accurately index the web sites. Although meta tags are a critical step in search engine optimization they alone are not enough to have a web site receive top ranking.

Search engines rely on a little device called a web crawler to locate and then catalog websites. Web crawlers are computer programs that browse the World Wide Web in a methodical, automated manner. Web crawlers are also sometimes called automatic indexers, web spiders, bots, web robots, and/or worms. Web crawlers locate and go to a website and “crawl” all over it, reading the algorithms and storing the data. Once they have collected all the information from the website they bring it back to the search engine where it is indexed. In addition to collecting information about a web site some search engines use web crawlers to harvest e-mail addresses and for maintenance tasks. Each search engine has their own individual web crawlers and each search engine has variations on how they gather information.

Most webmasters feel that proper use and placement of keywords helps catch the attention of web crawlers and improve their websites ranking. Most webmaster like to design their websites for ultimate search engine optimization immediately but there aren’t any rules that say you can’t go back to your website at any time and make improvements that will make it more attractive to search engines.
